Project: Data4Good

A public-interest-oriented health data ecosystem for use in healthcare and research.

Motivation

In the healthcare sector, collaboration within trustworthy data ecosystems is essential for driving innovation and improving efficiency. Data4Good responds to the need for a legally compliant, public-interest-oriented framework for data use. Particular attention is paid to striking a balance between data protection, fairness and economic incentives – as the foundation for a sustainable and stable European health data ecosystem.

Objective and
approach

Data4Good develops solutions for federated health data spaces that reconcile the public good with economic success. The aim is to create a scalable, sustainable data ecosystem with active citizen participation. EHDA e.V. provides the public-interest framework, whilst EHDP GmbH operates the system in an economically sustainable manner. Together with partners such as eHealth.Business GmbH, PONC.tech GmbH, Freie Universität Berlin and Charité, a marketable model for the responsible use of health data is being developed.

Innovations and
Outlooks

Data4Good is the first initiative to combine a public-interest-oriented organisational structure with a federated data infrastructure. The focus is on federated AI models, transparent access and control mechanisms, participatory governance, and a personalised data wallet app. In doing so, the project creates a European alternative to US data monopolies and positions itself as a blueprint for ethically grounded health data spaces with high technological and societal relevance.
