HEALTH-X dataLOFT: The future of health data

HEALTH-X dataLOFT was developed as part of a Gaia-X Initiative research project and funded by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection (BMWK) from 2022 to 2024.

The project was implemented by a consortium of experts consisting of: Charité - Berlin Institute of Health, Bundesdruckerei GmbH, Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft zur Förderung der angewandten Forschung e.V., Freie Universität Berlin, Hasso-Plattner-Institut für Digital Engineering GmbH, International Data Spaces e. V., IONOS SE, Medisana GmbH, OFFIS e.V., Siemens Healthcare GmbH, SVA System Vertrieb Alexander GmbH, Technologie- und Methodenplattform für die vernetzte medizinische Forschung e.V., Significo Health GmbH.

HEALTH-X dataLOFT focuses on the active participation of citizens in the use of their health data. This data is provided in an open, subsidised platform in accordance with the Gaia-X standards. The focus is on putting citizens at the centre of data use and control. This enables transparent and secure management of personal health information.

The platform offers customised usage options via various integrated services and creates new business models for the German and European healthcare industry. The aim is to develop innovative cloud-based applications for the healthcare market that meet the highest standards.

HEALTH-X dataLOFT utilises proven concepts such as those of the Medical Informatics Initiative (MII), which promote data exchange across institutional boundaries, to network the healthcare sectors. This is supplemented by legally binding Gematik standards and telematics infrastructure solutions. The focus is on the data sovereignty of citizens, who as data providers enable new economic models. These models are based on the linking of previously isolated data areas and create completely new potential.

HEALTH-X dataLOFT uses four specific use cases to show how linking data from the primary and secondary healthcare market can generate new business models. The use cases deal with socially relevant topics such as empowering citizens, health prevention, healthy ageing and clinical care. New approaches in the areas of B2P (business to patient) and B2C (business to consumer) offer innovative solutions for the financing of healthcare measures.

With these approaches, the platform is achieving a high level of visibility and broad impact in Germany and Europe. The Innovation Hub is continuously developing further use cases to test and expand the potential of the dataLOFT platform for citizens, patients and the healthcare industry.

Gemeinsam mit unseren Mitgliedern und Partnern setzen wir uns dafür ein, das Potenzial von Gesundheitsdaten in Europa verantwortungsvoll zu nutzen – für bessere Forschung, Innovation und Versorgung.
