TEAM-X – Trusted Ecosystems of Applied Medical Data eXchange

The TEAM-X research project was carried out from 2022 to 2024 with funding from the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection. A consortium of renowned partners, including leading research organisations, technology companies and medical institutions, implemented the project.

The project centred on the development of innovative digital solutions for the medical and care sector, with a focus on safeguarding the data sovereignty of patients and those in need of care.

The technologies developed in the project are based on the Gaia-X infrastructure and aim to create a balanced data ecosystem. This enables secure and trustworthy data exchange in which users retain complete control over the use of their personal data.

Based on the Gaia-X infrastructure, data spaces are being created for business and scientific sectors in which data is stored in a decentralised manner and is interoperable between the players involved in the data space in order to make it available for research, development and teaching, for example.

The innovative data ecosystem puts patients at the centre and gives them full sovereignty over their personal data. Transparent information processes enable patients to make informed decisions about the sharing of their data. Treatment centres benefit from comprehensive access to data, which enables them to make optimal treatment decisions based on a wealth of experience.

People's willingness to make their data available for scientific purposes contributes significantly to the refinement of disease research and the development of targeted therapeutic approaches. This collaborative data utilisation generates considerable social benefits, both in terms of health and the economy. The basic prerequisite for the success of this system is the guarantee of the highest security standards, which ensure the trust of users in the long term.

The project was implemented by a consortium of experts consisting of: Bayern Innovativ, C&S Computer und Software GmbH, ecsec GmbH, Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, Fraunhofer IIS, Identity Valley Research gGmbH, Neurosys GmbH, Refinio GmbH, Siemens Healthineers and the University Hospital Erlangen.
